After Hours
Electrical emergencies
Lydston Electric answers after-hours emergency calls. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 6:00pm. Outside those hours, after-hours rates apply.
Call right away if any of this is happening
These are the situations that should not wait for the next business day.
- 1.You smell burning near an outlet, a switch, a fixture or the panel, or you see scorch marks.
- 2.Sparking, arcing or a buzzing panel. Stop using the circuit and call.
- 3.A breaker trips again immediately after you reset it, or will not reset at all.
- 4.Water has reached electrical equipment, from a flood, a burst pipe or a roof leak.
- 5.A downed or damaged service line, or the service mast is pulled away from the house. Call the utility first, then us.
- 6.You have lost power to part of the house while neighbors still have theirs, which usually points at your service or panel rather than the grid.
- 7.Someone received a shock from an appliance, a fixture or a faucet.
- 8.Your standby generator failed to start during an outage, or is running and will not transfer.
If you smell gas, see fire, or anyone is injured, call 911 first. A utility hazard such as a downed line goes to the utility before it comes to us.
This can usually wait for business hours
Calling during the day on these costs you less and gets the same work.
- •One outlet or one switch that stopped working, with nothing burning or sparking.
- •A light fixture to replace, a fan to hang, a dimmer that buzzes.
- •A GFCI that trips occasionally and resets normally.
- •Planned work: a panel upgrade, a generator quote, remodel wiring, a mini-split circuit.
- •A whole-neighborhood outage. That is the utility, and the generator conversation is a daytime one.
What after-hours means for the bill
Emergency calls outside Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 6:00pm, are billed at after-hours rates. You will be told what that looks like on the phone before anyone is dispatched, so there is no surprise on the invoice.
If the problem can safely wait, we will say so and book you at the regular rate instead.
